Amazon Forever Biopark
It is a Private Conservation Area that preserves 11 hectareas of white-sand forest and aguajal or wetland ecosystems. The area was designed to promote the positive interaction with nature in a funny and playful way.
It has the following spaces:
AQUARIUM OF ARAPAIMA
It is an educational aquarium that aims to raise awareness regarding to the importance of the preservation of fishery resources, the enforcement of minimum catch sizes and the fishing seasons of Amazonian fish, like the paiche or arapaima.
ETHNO-BOTANICAL GARDEN
This area is home of the most representatives species of Amazonian flora that have been used for our ancestors. The aim is to revalue our traditional knowledge and promote, in children, the sense of belonging to the Amazonian forest.
THE FOREST OF HUAYO
In this area you can find giant wood sculptures and discover the nature through playful activities based on our character Huayo.
WHITE-SAND FOREST
Walking through different paths in the forest, you discover one of the most rare, fragile and important ecosystems of the Amazon, the White-Sand Forests, natural areas that cover only 0.05% of the Amazon.
Currently, these forests are disappearing at an alarming rate, due to the fact that white sand is one of the only construction materials available in the area for urban building. It is therefore imperative to get local people involved in its conservation.
RAFTING IN THE AGUAJAL OR WETLAND
Rowing a handmade craft, you know a very special ecosystem of the Amazon, the aguajales, these play a very important role to mitigate the climate change as they act as store of carbon. The fruit, aguaje, is one of the most nutritious of the tropical, it has five times more vitamin than the carrot, it is estimated that, in Iquitos city, 20 tons of aguaje is consumed per day.
